Our Journey

Founded by Claire Byrne in 2013 her dream was to open a horse riding school for people with disabilities in the Redlands. She was determined to make her dream come true, which she achieved.

With the wonderful support of Lorette Wigan the owner of Pine Lodge Equestrian Park at Thornlands, CPEC was able offer individualised riding lessons in the most beautiful surroundings, with the added benefit of an indoor arena.

Comments from the founder Claire Byrne (Legally blind)

“My disabilities never stopped me from enjoying the sheer pleasure of horse riding. On the horse, I forgot about my disabilities because I now had the eyes to see and the strength of the horse’s body to move. My beloved horse, Calisto Cosmo, took me all the way to Queensland Junior State Champion RDA. I named this riding school in his honour”.

Your Journey

We provide a platform and support to assist you in achieving your goals, whether you simply enjoy the benefits of therapeutic horse riding or have a dream to take on the world as a Para Equestrian, we can help.

We have highly qualified and experienced coaches who work with our fantastic volunteers to ensure your lessons are educational and fun. Our horses are exceptional and have been thoughtfully selected for their suitability to work at CPEC.

Our ability to serve is only limited by the severity of a disability or fragile state of health that would make participating unsafe for either students or volunteers.

Our Services

We offer private horseback riding lessons from beginners to advanced riders, and teach from a curriculum which incorporates safety as its main objective. Established in 2013, CPEC has been a sanctuary to many children and adults seeking to advance their horsemanship and riding skills. Clients can choose from therapeutic riding lessons or horsemanship.

Therapeutic Riding

Therapeutic riding lessons engage the rider’s body to move in a manner similar to the human gait. The torso, arms, shoulders, and head in a rhythmic way. These types of movements reach deep muscles, while the warmth of the horse keeps them more relaxed, causing less pain and creating passive exercise.

horsemanship

Horsemanship

Horsemanship lessons provide an opportunity to work the horse without actual horseback riding. There are many ways in which to work with the horse. A great starting point for those nervous about hopping straight onto a horse. Our clients goals are assessed and we strive to cater to their special needs.
